HELLO. I'M LAUREN BERNSTEIN, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE REGIONAL PARKS FOUNDATION.

SO HAPPY TO BE HERE TO SHARE OUR 2024 YEAR IN REVIEW.

AND I ALSO HAVE WITH ME OUR BOARD MEMBER JOHN MARTIN, WHO WILL START US OFF.

I'VE BEEN ON THE BOARD FOR ALMOST EIGHT YEARS NOW.

SO ANYWAY, I'VE GOT A QUICK JUST A COUPLE QUICK THINGS, MOSTLY JUST THANKS.

FIRST OF ALL, WE REALLY WANT TO THANK GIVE THANKS TO THE LEGACY OF ELLEN CORBETT.

ELLEN YOU KNOW, NOT ONLY SO MUCH FOR THE PARKS, BUT FOR CALIFORNIA ITSELF AND SAN LEANDRO, WHERE I HAVE MY BREWERY. IF I CAN INDULGE YOU IN A QUICK STORY ABOUT ELLEN.

LONG AGO, WE WERE A LITTLE BREWERY STILL. SHE CAME BY AS A SENATOR, AND WE HAPPENED TO BE TAPPING A WOODEN KEG THAT NIGHT FOR A BIG EVENT, AND I ASKED HER IF WE COULD TAP IT TOGETHER.

SO SHE SAID, SURE, THAT'D BE GREAT. SO I HAD THE WOODEN MALLET.

WELL, ACTUALLY, I GAVE THE MALLET TO HER. I HAD THE WOODEN TAP.

SHE TAPPED IT IN BUT MISSED. I THINK IT WAS MY FAULT, REALLY.

AND BEER WENT ALL OVER US, JUST COVERED BOTH OF US.

AND I THOUGHT, OH MY GOD, THIS IS THE LEADER OF THE SENATE.

AND SHE'S WEARING REALLY NICE CLOTHES, ALL THAT.

AND SHE JUST LAUGHED AND SAID IT WAS THE BEST EVENT SHE'D BEEN TO IN A LONG TIME.

BEST PUBLIC EVENT. SO ANYWAY, I REALLY ENJOYED WORKING WITH HER BACK THEN AND THROUGH THE FOUNDATION, AND WE REALLY MISS HER. SO I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT AND THE NEXT IS DIRECTOR ROSARIO.

BOY, HE WAS GREAT. HE AND I CAME ON ABOUT SIMILAR TIMES ABOUT A YEAR APART.

AND HE WAS SO GOOD TO ME AND TO THE FOUNDATION AS FAR AS BEING VERY OPEN AND EVERYWHERE YOU WENT.

SO TO CONTINUE WITH OUR REVIEW OF 2024, I JUST WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT PARK FEST.

JOHN GRACIOUSLY DONATED OUR ANNIVERSARY PARKFEST PILS, AND SO WE HAD A BEER GARDEN AT THE EVENT, AND IT WAS A LOT OF FUN. AND WE RAISED SOME MONEY FROM OUR BEER SALES AS WELL.

AND THEN, ALONG WITH THE 90TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DISTRICT OF 55TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDATION, WE ALSO DID A HALF MARATHON, 10 K AND 5K, AND WE REALLY APPRECIATE DIRECTOR WAESPI FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE RACE.

AND YEAH. AND JOSE AS WELL, YOU CAN SEE, AND THAT WAS A GREAT EVENT.

WE ALSO RAISED SPONSORSHIP DOLLARS FOR THAT. SO WE ALSO HAD A BOARD SUMMER SOCIAL WHERE WE INVITED THE REGIONAL PARKS FOUNDATION BOARD, THE EAST BAY REGIONAL PARK DISTRICT BOARD, AND THEN THE EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP TEAM HAD A REALLY NICE BARBECUE IN THE REDWOODS AND HAD A CHANCE TO SOCIALIZE AND WITH EACH OTHER, WHICH WAS THE FIRST TIME WE'VE DONE THAT SINCE I'VE BEEN HERE.

SO THAT WAS NICE. AND THEN WE REALLY WANT TO EXPRESS APPRECIATION TO THE GENERAL MANAGER AND STAFF FOR PARTICIPATING IN A REALLY IMPORTANT WORKSHOP TO UNLOCK THE POTENTIAL OF OUR PARTNERSHIP AT THE BRAZILIAN ROOM AT OUR BOARD RETREAT IN NOVEMBER.

SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING THERE. DIRECTOR MERCURIO WAS THERE, DIRECTOR ECHOLS, AND INVESTING SO MUCH TIME INTO OUR PARTNERSHIP.

WE'RE REALLY EXCITED TO TO KIND OF SEE WHAT COMES OUT OF THAT.

AND THEN WE ALSO HAD OUR HOLIDAY DINNER, SO WE WERE EXCITED TO MEET ONE OF THE NEW DIRECTORS AND SOME OF OUR BOARD MEMBERS, AMBER AND LES WERE ABLE TO ATTEND. AND THAT'S KIND OF A REVIEW OF ALL OF OUR EVENTS.

JUST TO UPDATE YOU ON OUR GOALS PROGRESS REPORT.

WE EXCEEDED AND WE'LL GET INTO THIS A LITTLE MORE LATER.

WE EXCEEDED OUR 2024 REVENUE GOAL. WE COMPLETED A COMPREHENSIVE MEMBERSHIP STUDY OF OUR 12,000 MEMBERS IN THE LAST WAS IN 2016.

SO THIS WAS REALLY TIMELY TO GET A SENSE OF WHAT OUR MEMBERS ARE THINKING AND FEELING AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE PARKS.

WE LAUNCHED OUR EBRPD PARTNERSHIP PROCESS WITH POTRERO GROUP, WHO'S A CONSULTING FIRM THAT'S AN EXPERT IN THE FIELD OF PARK PARTNERSHIPS, NONPROFIT AND PUBLIC LAND USE AGENCIES. WE IMPLEMENTED A DIGITAL FUNDRAISING PROGRAM.

WE COMPLETED SEVERAL MAJOR DATABASE IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS.

WE HAVE A DATABASE THAT'S COMPRISED OF OVER 100,000 CONSTITUENTS.

AND SO IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT FOR FUNDRAISING FOR US TO HAVE THOSE PROJECTS IN ORDER AND HAVE OUR DATABASE CLEAN.

WE MOVED OUR ORGANIZATIONAL FILES ONLINE TO SHAREPOINT.

WE DIGITIZED OUR ANNUAL GRANT MAKING PROCESS, AND WE RECRUITED THREE NEW BOARD MEMBERS.

AND SO THOSE WERE KIND OF OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR 2024.

AND THEN TO GET INTO OUR FUNDRAISING SNAPSHOT, OUR MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM RAISED ABOUT $1.1 MILLION.

WE WERE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT OUR INDIVIDUAL GIVING THAT WENT UP ALMOST $100,000 LAST YEAR.

I THINK WE WERE AT 650. AND SO I REALLY ATTRIBUTE THAT EXTRA REVENUE TO OUR DIGITAL FUNDRAISING EFFORTS THAT WE LAUNCHED.

WE REALLY WERE ABLE TO RAISE A LOT MORE MONEY BY BEING MORE IN CONTACT WITH OUR DONORS AND MEMBERS DIGITALLY, WHICH IS REALLY EXCITING. OUR GRANTS AND CORPORATES WERE AT $451,000, AND THEN BEQUESTS AT 109,000.

SO IN TOTAL WE RAISED ABOUT $2.44 MILLION. THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE OUR ECCHC OR THE BOTANIC GARDEN.

THIS IS JUST WHAT WE FUNDRAISED FROM THE FOUNDATION WITH OUR FUNDRAISING EFFORTS.

THAT WAS 150% OF OUR GOAL. WE HAD OVER 16,000 GIFTS FROM OVER 12,000 DONORS.

SO WE JUST HAVE A REALLY BIG BASE AND WE'RE REALLY THANKFUL TO ALL OF OUR SUPPORTERS.

WE DID DO TWO WE EVERY YEAR, WE DO TWO MAILED APPEALS, AND WE'RE INCORPORATING A DIGITAL COMPONENT TO THAT.

AND THEN THIS YEAR, WE ALSO DID A 90TH ANNIVERSARY APPEAL WHERE WE RAISED $22,000, WHICH IS A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT FOR AN ONLINE DIGITAL APPEAL.

I'VE ACTUALLY NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THAT. SO IT JUST SHOWS LIKE HOW MUCH PEOPLE REALLY LOVE THE PARKS, AND WE'RE EXCITED TO CELEBRATE WITH US WHEN THERE'S AN OPPORTUNITY.

FOR OUR MEMBERSHIP HIGHLIGHTS, WE HAVE 12,632 MEMBERS LAST YEAR.

WE HAVE A SEGMENT OF DONOR CIRCLE MEMBERS, WHICH IS PEOPLE WHO ARE GIVING ABOVE THE COST OF THE ANNUAL PARK PASS.

WE HAVE THREE DIFFERENT LEVELS, RANGING FROM $250 TO $1200.

SO WE HAD AN INCREASE TO 545 OF THOSE MEMBERS.

AND YOU CAN ALSO GIVE A GIFT OF MEMBERSHIP TO SOMEONE.

AND SO WE HAD 160 GIFTS OF MEMBERSHIP WHERE PEOPLE BOUGHT MEMBERSHIPS FOR THEIR FRIENDS AND FAMILY.

AND WE HAVE AN 83% MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL RATE, WHICH IS VERY HIGH.

THESE ARE SOME COMPANIES THAT GAVE TO US FOR GRANTS LAST YEAR.

WE'RE REALLY THANKFUL TO ALL THESE COMPANIES, AND WE'RE REALLY EXCITED TO GROW OUR CORPORATE DONATION PROGRAM AS WELL.

WE RECEIVED DISTRIBUTIONS FROM FIVE BEQUESTS TOTALING $109,000.

THESE CAN RANGE FROM REALLY SMALL OR REALLY LARGE GIFTS.

AND THEN ANOTHER SERVICE THAT WE'RE REALLY EXCITED TO PROVIDE TO THE PUBLIC ARE ESTATE PLANNING SEMINARS, WHICH ARE FREE SEMINARS AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC WHERE WE HAVE ESTATE PLANNING ATTORNEYS COME AND GIVE FREE INFORMATION.

I GUESS NOT TECHNICALLY LEGAL ADVICE, BUT FREE INFORMATION, WHICH IS A LITTLE BIT HARD TO ACCESS.

SO WE REALLY LIKE REDUCING BARRIERS TO THAT INFORMATION FOR FOLKS.

WE ALSO MANAGE THE ENDOWMENT FOR THE ECCHC. AND SO LAST YEAR THEIR FUND BALANCE WAS INCREASED BY 18% THROUGH BOTH THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS AND THEN TREMENDOUS INVESTMENT RETURNS. AND NOW WE'LL GET INTO OUR THE FUN PART OUR PROGRAMS AND IMPACT.

SO LAST YEAR WE WERE ABLE TO GIVE NEARLY $2.6 MILLION AWAY TO THE PARK DISTRICT .

AND THIS CHART BREAKS DOWN HOW WE DO THAT. SO WE HAVE AN UNRESTRICTED GRANT TO EBRPD FOR $660,000.

SPECIAL PROJECT SUPPORT THAT INCLUDES THINGS LIKE THE ROBERTS POOL, MILLION DOLLARS TO THE ROBERTS POOL, AND TO SPECIFIC RESTRICTED PARK EXPENSES. AND THEN OPERATING PROGRAM SUPPORT IS TO ALL THE PROGRAMS THAT WE FUND IN THE ANNUAL GRANT MAKING CYCLE. SO MOST OF IT GOES TO I&R AND STEWARDSHIP.

AND THEN WE GIVE SCHOLARSHIPS TO CAMP ARROYO ALSO.

AND THEN THIS IS JUST THE SAME NUMBER BROKEN DOWN IN DIFFERENT WAY INTO OUR STRATEGIC PILLARS OF HEALTH AND WELLNESS, UNIVERSAL ACCESS, YOUTH DEVELOPMENT, ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND ADVOCACY.

THE THE HIGHEST THAT YOU'LL SEE IS THE UNRESTRICTED SUPPORT TO EBRPD.

AND THEN THE SECOND HIGHEST IS USUALLY YOUTH DEVELOPMENT.

THE ONLY REASON THAT THIS CHART LOOKS A LITTLE SKEWED FROM LAST YEAR IS BECAUSE THE $1 MILLION FOR ROBERTS POOL WENT INTO HEALTH AND WELLNESS, SO NORMALLY OUR TOP CATEGORY IS YOUTH DEVELOPMENT.

SO I'M JUST GOING TO GO OVER EACH CATEGORY QUICKLY.

WE TALKED ABOUT THE POOL. FREMONT BANK ALSO GAVE $25,000 FOR A RESCUE UTILITY VEHICLE, WHICH IS PICTURED HERE FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.

AND THEY WERE REALLY HAPPY TO RECEIVE THAT $25,000 TOWARDS TRAILS CHALLENGE, WHICH IS A PROGRAM THAT WE'RE REALLY TRYING TO IMPROVE.

AND THIS YEAR I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT. AND THEN WE ALSO DID WE DO THINGS LIKE BIKE BELLS AND THEN UNIFORMS FOR THE VOLUNTEER TRAIL SAFETY PATROL FOR UNIVERSAL ACCESS. WE FUND PROGRAMS LIKE PARKS PRESCRIPTION PROGRAM, ALL ABILITIES DAYS, DELTA VETERANS, BACKPACKS TO PARKS. WE ALSO PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS.

A LOT OF THE PROGRAMS THAT EBRPD DOES IS ARE FREE.

AND SO WE MOSTLY FUND THE PROGRAMS, BUT WHERE THERE ARE FEES FOR CERTAIN PROGRAMS, THAT'S WHEN WE CAN COME IN AND PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS.

SO THAT INCLUDES BAY ADVENTURE, JUNIOR LIFEGUARDS.

THERE'S SOME OTHER AQUA LIKE WE DO A LOT OF AQUATICS SCHOLARSHIPS AND THEN I&R SCHOLARSHIPS.

SO BOATING AND FISHING SCHOLARSHIPS AND THEN THE DAY CAMP.

AND THEN FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT WE FUND KHOC KIDS HEALTHY OUTDOOR CHALLENGE, THE LONGITUDINAL PROGRAMS, THE ADVENTURE CREW PROGRAMS. AND THEN ALSO WE CONTRIBUTED TO THE WATERSHED RESTORATION APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM WITH URBAN TILTH IN RICHMOND.

AND THEN WE ALSO DO THE WOLF SCHOOL AT CAMP ARROYO, WHICH IS A, I THINK A FOUR NIGHT OVERNIGHT CAMP DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR, OUTDOOR EDUCATION FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN. AND IN TERMS OF ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP, WE GAVE THIS YEAR TO THE WESTERN POND TURTLE MONITORING, MORE POND RESTORATIONS, LIZARD DIET, GENETIC STUDY.

AND THEN WE ARE ALSO REALLY EXCITED TO HELP FUND THE CONTRA LOMA FALL TREE PLANTING, BECAUSE THERE'S NOT A LOT OF TREE PLANTING OPPORTUNITIES ACROSS THE DISTRICT.

AND SO THAT WAS EXCITING. AND THEY HAD A LOT OF VOLUNTEERS COME OUT AND DID A LOT OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AROUND THAT.

AND THEN WE WERE EXCITED TO HELP SUPPORT ALSO PROP 4 , THE PROP 4 CLIMATE BOND LAST YEAR AS WELL.

WHENEVER THERE ARE OPPORTUNITIES TO DO A LITTLE BIT OF ADVOCACY, THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE'RE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN.

IT DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERY YEAR, BUT IT OBVIOUSLY IT CAME UP LAST YEAR BECAUSE IT WAS AN ELECTION YEAR. AND THEN WE ALSO SPONSORED COMMUNITY EVENTS LIKE WORLD RANGER DAY, NATIONAL NIGHT OUT, PORT CHICAGO WEEKEND, AND INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE.

WE PUT OUT THE COMPASS MAGAZINE TWICE A YEAR, WHICH GOES OUT TO OUR MEMBERS DONORS.

IT'S A BENEFIT OF MEMBERSHIP. AND THEN IT ALSO GOES OUT TO A LOT OF DISTRICT CONTACTS AS WELL.

AND THEN WE HAVE AN IMPACT REPORT THAT WE ALSO PUBLISHED.

AND THEN WE GOT WE DID GET A LOT OF PRESS FOR WE HAD A LOT OF IN-KIND PRESS FOR LAKESIDE LAPS AND PARKFEST AND SOME OF THE EVENTS THAT WE DID LAST YEAR.

AND JUST REALLY WANT TO THANK THE REGIONAL PARKS FOUNDATION BOARD.

WE'RE REALLY EXCITED TO HAVE ALL OF THESE AMAZING PROFESSIONALS ON OUR BOARD AND HELPING US SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THE WORK THAT WE DO AND ABOUT THE PARKS.

I JUST WANTED TO GO OVER FUTURE LOOKING WHERE WE'RE HEADED AND GIVE YOU A SENSE OF OUR GOALS FOR 2025.

OBVIOUSLY, THE NUMBER ONE GOAL IS FUNDRAISING AND REVENUE GENERATION, SO WE'RE TARGETING $2.53 MILLION THIS YEAR IN TOTAL FUNDRAISING EARNED REVENUE AND ENDOWMENTS. AND THEN WE'RE WORKING ON OUR FUNDRAISING CAPACITY BUILDING AS WE GEAR UP TO RAISE A LOT MORE MONEY FOR THE DISTRICT AND INVEST IN HIGH PRIORITY PROJECTS.

SO THAT INCLUDES ENHANCING OUR SYSTEMS, STAFF CAPABILITIES AND DONOR ENGAGEMENT STRATEGIES, AND THEN WORKING ON ORGANIZATIONAL SUSTAINABILITY.

SO GROWING THE PARTNERSHIP WITH THE PARK DISTRICT , STRENGTHENING OUR MOU, AND THEN OF COURSE, PROVIDING $2 MILLION OR MORE IN FUNDING SUPPORT BACK TO THE DISTRICT.

AND THEN WE'RE LOOKING TO ADVANCE OUR GOVERNANCE AND OVERSIGHT INITIATIVES WITH BOARDS AND COMMITTEES.

AND THIS IS OUR ROADMAP FOR THE NEXT, LET'S SAY, 4 OR 5 YEARS.

RIGHT NOW WITH A LITTLE HIKER WE'RE IN STEP ONE AGAIN.

YES. THIS IS A TRAIL MAP. GREAT. AND JUST REALLY AGAIN, WANT TO THANK THE GENERAL MANAGER FOR INVESTING IN THIS PARTNERSHIP, GIVING IT A LOOK, LETTING US KIND OF REDEFINE AND UNLOCK THE POTENTIAL OF WHAT'S POSSIBLE.

AND SO WE CONTRACTED WITH POTRERO GROUP, AND THAT CONTRACT IS ENDING IN APRIL.

IN LIGHT OF THE RECENT WILDFIRE DEVASTATION DOWN IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, IT WAS A GOOD TIME TO REVISIT WITH THE PUBLIC ALL OF THE WORK THAT THE DISTRICT DOES IN OUR AREA. SO WE HAD A MEDIA CAMPAIGN, A VERY TARGETED MEDIA CAMPAIGN THAT WE WORKED ON IN JANUARY TO SHOWCASE THE PARK DISTRICT 'S ROBUST APPROACH TO WILDFIRE PREPAREDNESS AND MITIGATION MEASURES.

THE PITCH INCLUDED SPOTLIGHTING OUR FUELS MANAGEMENT TEAM AND CURRENT FUEL BREAK PROJECTS, THE INCREASE IN NUMBER OF FIRE PERSONNEL, THE CARBONIZER, ANIMAL GRAZING AND WILDLAND FIREFIGHTING EQUIPMENT.

TO SUPPORT THIS MEDIA CAMPAIGN, THE TEAM PRODUCED SOME VIDEO VIGNETTES THAT ARE BEING PUSHED OUT THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA.

THERE'S BEEN ONE THAT'S BEEN RELEASED SO FAR WITH JAVON LAW, WHO OVERSEES OUR COORDINATES, OUR FUEL MITIGATION, OUR FUELS PROGRAM. SO FAR WE HAVE HAD TWO

THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND THE STRATEGY. THEY DON'T REALLY I MEAN, THEY IT'S NOT THAT THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND IT.

THEY DON'T KNOW IT. AND SO I THINK IT WOULD BE REALLY HELPFUL FOR PEOPLE TO KNOW HOW MUCH THOUGHT IS GOING INTO THIS WORK.
